January Market 2013

January is one of those months when hiding under a duvet and trying to ignore it seems like a good idea but we decided that wasn't for us and had our first Market on the 6th January.

We dusted ourselves down, organised our stalls and looked forward to catching up on gossip, meeting new customers and eating cake.

Which we did!

It was a little slow but we had a reasonable flow through out the day.  The quiet times allowed us to chat about the Market and how we were going with our business's generally.

As we are all small independent business's we are all seeing people being more careful with their money, so we are quite happy to explain about the provenance of our products.

Unfortunately the weather beat us on the 16th, the quantity of snow was quite small but there was ice underneath in places which made the outside area a bit tricky and therefore we didn't want to risk it.

Hopefully the Market on the 23rd will be business as usual.

If you are interested in finding out more about our stallholders, there is a list of links in the side bar of this blog, which at one click (hopefully) will take you through to their website/facebook page.

Broadstairs Market Day - The Beginnings

I had thought for a long time that Broadstairs in Kent needed a Market in what form and where I wasn't too sure.

In July this year a Farmer's Market was started at the Pavilion which went well through the summer season but unfortunately Autumn came along and the number of people using the Market decreased.

We needed a different venue and by chance somebody mentioned Crampton Tower Hall, Broadstairs never having been there, we went and had a look and thought it had potential.

So on the 7th Novmember 2012 the doors opened and the Broadstairs Market was born.

Since then Broadstairs Market has ebbed and flowed with new traders coming and going but we have managed to keep an interesting mix of stalls selling all kinds of items from Bread to Apple Juice, Knitted Mice to Felt Craft Kits, Sausage Rolls and Soup to Ceramic Jewellery.

We have had a steady number of customers enticed in by the smells and sounds of enthusiastic local stallholders wanting to show them what is happening locally.

We are Broadstairs Market is open every Wednesday 10am - 2pm come rain or snow and shine.

We have a small seating where you can have coffee, tea and cake at good prices, we also have a vintage van outside selling soup, bacon sandwiches and sausage rolls.

The purpose of this blog will be to give you an insight into the producers and craft people that are out and about in Thanet, we will be given you interviews and recipes, extra events that we are developing and maybe some gossip.

As is required now we have a Facebook Page and Twitter account so you can also keep in touch with us that way as well.

Look forward to maybe seeing you at Broadstairs Market, Every Wednesday, Crampton Tower Hall,  10am - 2pm
